National Rural Housing Coalition

The National Rural Housing Coalition (NRHC) is the only national membership organization that advocates exclusively on rural housing and community development issues. We’ve worked with NRHC since 1982 — managing the Coalition’s Washington office, developing and implementing its legislative program, conducting policy research, and working with federal agencies on rural housing issues. Fast-forward: In the firm’s most recent work for the NRHC, we worked with members of the Coalition to increase funding for low-income homeownership through USDA’s Self Help Housing program. We worked with the Administration and Congress to add funding for the program. The result: appropriations for self-help housing tripled. Coalition members also identified the lack of affordable rental housing in rural areas as a pressing need. On NRHC’s behalf we conducted a symposium on rural rental housing issues. Then, armed with a set of recommendations from the symposium, we developed model legislation, the Rural Rental Housing Act, that was introduced by a bipartisan group of Senators.
