SENATE PASSES RURAL ENDOWMENT ACT
On February 13, 2002, the Senate passed the Rural Endowment Act as part
of S. 1731, the 2002 re-authorization Farm Bill! The Rural Endowment Act
is a bold new community development initiative designed to help rural
communities create permanent community assets with which to prosper well
into the 21st century. The Endowment promises to provide awards up to
$6 million to rural areas to help with affordable housing, infrastructure
improvements, business development and other needs. The Senate set aside
$82.5 million for this initiative.
NOW comes the hard part: We need your help TODAY in urging
Members of the House Conference Committee to pass the Rural Endowment
as part of the final Farm Bill package.
